New Zealand Classic Commercials
Are you interested in taking part in the 2010 North Island Long Lap in October? Entries close on the 9th August so the organisers can get a handle on the actual numbers.
The Lap begins on Monday 11th October in Wellington and will last for 2 weeks. It will end in Wellington on Sunday 24th October. The whole run will travel over 2500kms albeit in planned stages. At each of the stages sightseeing and actiities are planned.
Here is the route: Wellington - Wanganui - New Plymouth - Cambridge - South Auckland - Whakatane via Whangamata - Gisborne - Hawkes Bay - Fielding - Wairarapa - Wellington. That's 10 legs for the Lap.
The Lap is being organised by the NZ Classic Commercials Club through Ray Reid and Vic Draper.
You may wish to participate but not in the whole journey. So good news, it's possible for you to join in the Lap and depart from the Lap at any point, the organisers just need to know that information.
Not included in your entry fee of $150 are your meals or your accommodation. The majority of the organised activities will be pay as you go.
However two Lap activities will need to be pre-booked and paid for and they are: 1 The Wanganui River Steamer and meal ($60 a head) and 2: The day cruise out to White Island from Whakatane and that cost is expected to be $150 a head.
If you'd like to talk to the organisers Ray's number is (06) 329-6909 and Vic's number is (04) 234-7368 and this is his afterhours number.

Filming
Bill and Linda Hohepa will be filming the whole event and an overview will be screened on their Toll NZ Talking Trucks show in November. They are also making a 3 hour DVD of the event and this will be available for sale from the 20th November. However to ensure they get all the participating trucks on film they will be filming it in stages and will ask that X number of trucks start an hour earlier for each of the legs so they have time to capture each truck without having to rush things, drive at break neck speeds to keep up and just hoping for the best. They will also ask each participant for a brief comment about their trucks to include in the video project. It would also be helpful if they knew who had a CB radio installed to help with on the road filming communications. They will have handheld CB's available for those who don't have an inbuilt CB.
We will post more information as it comes to hand.
